Nathan McNeese, Ph.D.

Dr. Nathan McNeese, the world's foremost expert on human-AI teamwork and one of the top experts on human-centered AI. Currently the McQueen Quattlebaum Endowed Professorship in Human-Centered Computing at Clemson University, Dr. McNeese earned his Ph.D. in Information Science from Penn State and has secured over $40 million in research funding. The majority of this research portfolio has been dedicated to the understanding, design, and application of AI technology as teammates algonside humans.

Dr. McNeese's key contributions to AI include establishing the first empirical definition of human-AI teaming, uncovering the empirical connection between trust in AI technology and the performance of human-AI collaborations, and quantifying the influence of AI teammates on the future performance of teams. Throughout his career, Dr. McNeese has create multiple high-impact AI research organizations, including the Team Research Analytics in Computational Environments (TRACE) Research Group and Clemson University’s Center for Human-AI Interaction, Collaboration, and Teaming.

Continuing in these efforts, Dr. McNeese has provided invaluable insights to research organizations like the National Science Foundation, United States Air Force, Federal Aviation Administration, and North Atlantic Treaty Organization. Further, the has led a number of industry collaborations that more closely focus on the application of AI technology in the workplace.
